Pact Kenya is a local Kenyan NGO that works with others for positive change. Our Mission is to enable citizens and communities in Kenya and neighbouring countries to live a life of dignity by strengthening individuals and organizations to be effective agents of positive change.

Pact Kenya does this through grant management, capacity building and organisational development. We implement a number of programmes and projects that provide this support to nearly 100 other NGOs or Community Based Organizations in Kenya.

Pact Kenya implements both large complex multi-million dollar programmes and much smaller more locally based and specific projects. To bring some focus to our efforts Pact Kenya has chosen to work across 4 Strategic Platforms – Democracy and Governance, Conflict Management, Environment and Natural Resource Management and Women’s Empowerment. We are supported by a variety of different donors.

Pact Kenya is a development organisation.  We are focused on enhancing the capabilities of people and their organisations to better serve their communities and constituencies and so achieve sustainable developmental objectives for the people of Kenya. We understand empowerment to be at the heart of development and by this we mean strengthening a person’s or group’s capacity to make effective choices, that is, not only to have and make choices, but to be able to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes. Pact Kenya is a nation wide organisation.  We support about 100 local organisations that are based in locations right across Kenya from the North East pastoralists around Mandera to the fishers and farmers of Shimoni and Vanga.   We work with large organisations and networks based in Nairobi to local community based organisations working near Mount Kenya.  Read more on where we work…

Pact Kenya is a facilitating organisation.  We work with a number of donors to help them achieve their strategic objectives in Kenya.  Pact Kenya then uses those resources to work with many organisations and their networks and coalitions to build their agency to help ordinary people and communities develop their assets - be they psychological, informational, organizational, material, social, financial, and human. Pact Kenya is a visionary organisation.  We want to see a vibrant and effective civil society playing its role within a developing and fully democratic Kenya.   We wish to see poverty tackled and its many consequences addressed.  We want to tackle the lack of skills and capabilities, the lack of effective policies or weak laws and many other elements which prevent poverty reduction and which reduce peoples’ dignity and opportunity.
