We understand empowerment to be at the heart of development and by this we mean strengthening a person’s or group’s capacity to make effective choices, that is, not only to have and make choices, but to be able to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes. We support about 100 local organisations that are based in locations right across Kenya from the North East pastoralists around Mandera to the fishers and farmers of Shimoni and Vanga. We work with large organisations and networks based in Nairobi to local community based organisations working near Mount Kenya. Read more on where we work… Pact Kenya is a facilitating organisation. We work with a number of donors to help them achieve their strategic objectives in Kenya. Pact Kenya then uses those resources to work with many organisations and their networks and coalitions to build their agency to help ordinary people and communities develop their assets - be they psychological, informational, organizational, material, social, financial, and human. Pact Kenya also works with others on the institutional context so that the rules of the game are fairer so there is a more level playing field or more accountability in the game. We wish to see poverty tackled and its many consequences addressed. We want to tackle the lack of skills and capabilities, the lack of effective policies or weak laws and many other elements which prevent poverty reduction and which reduce peoples’ dignity and opportunity. |
